Initial steps
- [ ] Introduces themselves to the patient
- [ ] Confirms the patient’s name and date of birth
Airway
- [ ] Checks patency of airway including inspection of the mouth
Breathing
- [ ] Reviews the patient’s respiratory rate
- [ ] Reviews the patient’s oxygen saturation and administers oxygen appropriately
- [ ] Auscultates the lungs to assess air entry and for added sounds
- [ ] Requests for blood gas
- [ ] Considers need for chest x-ray and interprets results appropriately
- [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention
Circulation
- [ ] Assesses pulse
- [ ] Assesses blood pressure
- [ ] Assesses CRT
- [ ] Request for blood tests: FBC, U&E, CRP, LFT, +/- Group & Save
- [ ] Request ECG
- [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention
Disability
- [ ] Assesses level of consciousness (using AVPU or GCS)
- [ ] Assesses pupils using pen torch
- [ ] Checks capillary blood glucose
- [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention
Exposure
- [ ] Measures body temperature
- [ ] Examines the abdomen: tenderness on palpation at the right iliac fossa with guarding, rebound tenderness in the right lower quadrant of abdomen, Rovsing sign positive
- [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention
Referral and handover
- [ ] Recognise need to request senior surgical review
