Initial steps

• [ ] Introduces themselves to the patient

Airway

• [ ] Checks patency of airway including inspection of the mouth

Breathing

• [ ] Reviews the patient’s respiratory rate
• [ ] Reviews the patient’s oxygen saturation and administers oxygen appropriately
• [ ] Auscultates the lungs to assess air entry and for added sounds
• [ ] Requests for blood gas
• [ ] Considers need for chest x-ray and interprets results appropriately
• [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention

Circulation

• [ ] Assesses pulse
• [ ] Assesses blood pressure
• [ ] Assesses CRT
• [ ] Request for blood tests: FBC, U&E, CRP, LFT, +/- Group & Save
• [ ] Request ECG
• [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention

Disability

• [ ] Assesses level of consciousness (using AVPU or GCS)
• [ ] Assesses pupils using pen torch
• [ ] Checks capillary blood glucose
• [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention

Exposure

• [ ] Measures body temperature
• [ ] Examines the abdomen: tenderness on palpation at the right iliac fossa with guarding, rebound tenderness in the right lower quadrant of abdomen, Rovsing sign positive
• [ ] Re-assesses after any intervention

Referral and handover
